Steam Locomotive
SOO LINE 1003
Past Runs and Appearances
The SOO LINE 1003 has made a number of appearances since its restoration, traveling extensively to bring this fine example of steam power to people in the Midwest. Many have experienced in sight and sound this very significant part of railroad history. 1003 has been in Chippewa Falls, Osceola, Rhinelander, and Green Bay, Wisconsin and also in Gladstone, Michigan. Trips have included excursion runs from Green Bay, Waukesha, Wisconsin and Fox Lake, Illinois. The locomotive also appeared at the Burlington, Wisconsin Chocolate Festival and with the Circus Train in Milwaukee. During July 2005, 1003 visited Janesville and Madison, Wisconsin to join with the Wisconsin and Southern Railroad in observing the centennial of its Janesville ROUNDHOUSE CELEBRATION AND ITS first twenty five years AS A CORPORATE ENTITY. In between those appearances 1003 visited Edgerton, Wisconsin to help it celebrate the town's Tobacco Heritage Days.
In November of 2004, 1003 performed for a photographers' special with a weekend of steam freight runs by subscription. This was successfully repeated in April of 2005. Recent photo freights were an exciting return to steam train operation after several earlier trips running out of Green Bay, Waukesha, and Fox Lake.
Lineside stops by the Santa Train in 2006 allowed Santa Fans to visit with Santa and 1003 Fans to again see 1003 serving various communities.
When it is not running, Soo Line 1003 may be seen at the Wisconsin Auto Museum in Hartford, Wisconsin
